Tum intzaar kartey raho savera ka,

Iss kinnarey din bhi doob gaya.

Lo ched kar diya jheel main takki

Taki roshni tum tak pahunch sakey.

Yun toh hum tumsey kuch na kehtey hai,

Tum itney khafa, khafa jo rehtey ho.

Boondon ko jala kar tum tak bheej diya

Ab toh muskurado.

Yeh tumhey tumharey naam key haazaron nazm

Ishq ne dhoondha hai

Na tujhko, na mujhko.

Ishq ne dhoondha hai

Na tujhko, na mujhko.

Ishq ko baqaida hum dhoondhtey rahey

Ishq ne dhoondha hai

Na tujhko, na mujhko.

Ishq ne dhoondha hai

Na tujhko, na mujhko.

Ishq ko baqaida hum dhoondhtey rahey

Qaidey sey dhoodha hota toh mil bhi jata

Qaidey sey dhoodha hota toh mil bhi jata

Par humney kab kuch qaidey sey kiya hai,

Jo ishq ko qaidey se karengey.

Dreams, Dandelions and Other Random Things April 1, 2014

Dandelions in my hand
The fantasy keeps me afloat
I tie dreams on to a string
and set them free in the sea.

Streets filled with topaz
Brush through my fingers
I tie the night on to a balloon
and carry it home.

Withered flowers in my purse
Rustle quietly, blessing me with every turn
I tie the prayers on to a door step
and create a whole new world.

The invisible, the visible and the one that vanished January 29, 2014

The invisible, the visible and the one that vanished
have all left the room.
Strangely, I am not unhappy.
There is a peace in the room.

Like a blank and empty page,
fresh, new, creamy cartridge sheet.
A black pen in my hand,
a new illustration awaits.

But the room is so beautiful and empty
even though so small.
May be tomorrow I’ll try
All it really needs is one black spot.

Like the seed of a new life
A dream of a new hope.

Broken Heart July 30, 2013

The broken heart cannot fall in love
all it can do is write cathartic poetry

Everything above
and everything below
is just space.
Devoid of emotion and time
The pieces just float in water
neither drowning
nor rising.
Sticky tape doesn’t help either,
nor does glue or fevicol.
The darkness really has no answers

The broken heart knows
it has become fodder now
what it is looking for now
Is not to be reattached,
but to find a seed,
and grow again.

Today

was not about the thunder and the rains

was not about the lightning and the fire

was not even about the aftermath

Today

was about discovery

of one another

was about disbelief in friendship

and

renewed faith in life.

Today was more than a Fool’s Day

Kunal: What will we do sitting here?
Dad: Atleast the two of you complete the oath. If all three of us sit in the car what is the use of coming all the way climbing the stairs. So just shut up and sit here both of you !
Kunal: You took the oath, we did not.

Kunal: You’ve become such a pain after …
Chutki: What ! What ! Say it !
Kunal: Nothing.
Chutki: You and dad don’t tell me anything. The two of you act as if I don’t exist. I hate you ! I hate you !
Kunal: I hate you too. I have to give up everything because of you.
Chutki: Where’s Dad? I want daddy !
Kunal: Shut up and sit here, you idiot. He’s already pissed with me.

Chutki: Papa gave them to me, he said he’ll take them from me later.

Om Jaye Jagdish Hare, Swami Jaye Jagdish Hare

Kunal: Ask him what ?
Chutki : About mama …
Kunal: Ask him … let’s see how he answers your question.
Chutki: Papa, Why did mama leave us ?
Dad: (Uncomfortable) I don’t know putt. We’re going to ask god that. And we’ll ask God to send Chutki’s Mama quick …
Kunal: Oh quit it dad ! Bribing God will not help bring Mama back. She’s never coming back and it’s all thanks to you …
Dad: You’re still a child you won’t understand it.
Kunal: I am a child that is why I have the guts to tell the truth.
Dad: You’ve become very big, haven’t you !
Kunal: Ne pa. Leave every thing aside, tell me which class is Chutki in ?
(Chutki brings out her inhaler from her pouch and gives it to kunal)
Kunal: What !
(Chutki hands him the inhaler and he shakes it and gives it to her, she takes a puff and they repeat the process once more)
(Chutki catches her breath and asks Kunal)
Chutki: Will mama ever come back, bhaiya ?
Kunal: (silence)
Chutki: Tell me the truth please…
Kunal: I don’t know … I really don’t know. (Pause) But … I … I will never leave you.
Chutki: Even if I ask you a million questions.
Kunal: You can ask me a million, billion, trillion even.
Chutki: Bhaiya, did mama go because of me?
Kunal: Na … you are still not that powerful …
(Makes a face)
Chutki: I miss her, Bhaiya.
Kunal: Why ?
Chutki: Because she always knew which questions I’d ask her. She knew more than papa, you and me. She just got me.
(They have reached the temple peak but they walk towards the car park. Dad is frozen in space looking at them walk off)
Kunal: I could try to understand you … (walking off stage)
Chutki: Then you can’t call me baby elephant.
Kunal: You toh are my little baby and you are as intelligent as an elephant …
Chutki: … aaahhhahahahah…(pokes him in the side)
( They exit stage tickling & poking each other. Dad is lost. Lights fade)

Who knows how to make love stay?

In the winters of life

and a warm summer day

Who knows how to make love stay ?

In the mornings of youth

and the nights of grey

Who knows how to make love stay ?

Who knows how to survive ?

In the silence of time

and the loneliness of a strife

Who knows how to survive ?

In the glory of right

and the warm limelight

Who knows how to survive ?

who knows how to make love stay …

Who knows how to make love stay?

In the winters of life

and a warm summer day

Who knows how to make love stay ?

In the mornings of youth

and the nights of grey

Who knows how to make love stay ?

Who knows how to survive ?

In the silence of time

and the loneliness of a strife

Who knows how to survive ?

In the glory of right

and the warm limelight

Who knows how to survive ?

who knows how to make love stay …

who knows how to make love stay …

Insides of the Heart September 14, 2012

On the insides of the heart

and the entrails of life

There is a mirror of you

with a reflection of me.

We stand together,

toes touching each other,

with lights of glory,

patiently waiting for the universe

to unfold our story.
